My Sunday has been quiet, I have mostly been resting as a result of over-exertion from recent days - the joys of ME/CFS - and so plenty of sleep and doing nothing was needed to recover and recoup some much needed ‘spoons’.
Around late afternoon the church bells from the church down the road began to ring, I assumed they would stop after a few minutes, perhaps they were signalling the start of a service? Or a wedding? But they continued for half an hour and left me with a headache - I don’t normally mind the sound of bells ringing, but this time there was no particular tune, just repetitive clanging and irritation for me.
As I sat complaining, I decided to write this poem, and I learned a new word while I looked for another way to describe the bells ringing and save repeating myself - “Tintinnabulation” the sound made by bells ringing.
Church bells ring, are you listening?
Church bells
Clanging loundly
Ringing noisily
Out of tune
For what purpose?
I sit uncomfortably
the tintinnabulation of the bells
disturbing my peace
deafening reminders
of a God long abandoned
What new words have you found lately? And how have you incorporated them into a poem? If not, why not give it a go…

I love learning new words. And this is a fabulous one. I haven't used it in a poem yet but the Japanese word Komorebi refers to the sundrops through the trees. I wrote it down right away.

Ooo, the catholic guilt is pointing the finger at me on that line. I havent come across any new words, but I've made up quite a few playing scrabble!
